Fanya Gottesfeld Heller is a Holocaust survivor, author, community activist, and noted educator. Born into a traditional Jewish family in a small Ukrainian village in 1924, Fanya miraculously survived the Holocaust with the help of two righteous Christians. Her book, Love in a World of Sorrow: A Teenage Girl's Holocaust Memoirs, documents her family's wartime existence in hiding. Since its original publication she has dedicated her life to sharing her message of tolerance and hope. In 1998 she was awarded the Louis E. Yavner Citizen Award. She has her BA and MA in psychology from the New School for Social Research and honorary degrees from YU and Bar Ilan.
