Leila Leah Bronner is a noted author, professor, writer and community activist. Her many books and articles focus on the Hebrew Bible, religious and historical themes, with an emphasis on women's issues. In 1964, she was the first woman in South Africa to receive a doctorate in Ancient Semitic Languages and History. Dr. Bronner served as Tenured Professor of Bible and Jewish History at the University of the Witwaterstrand in Johannesburg, as Adjunct Associate Professor of Jewish History at the University of Judaism, as Visiting Scholar at Yeshiva University's Institute of Adult Studies, and visiting Scholar at Bar Ilan University and at Harvard University. For her book From Eve to Esther: Rabbinic Reconstructions of Biblical Women, she received a Literary Achievement Award from the B'nai Zion Western Region. A sought-after lecturer in the United States, South Africa, Europe and Israel, she has made presentations for a wide range of audiences. She is currently working on book on the Afterlife in Jewish Thought.
